CLINICAL HYPNOSIS

Hypnosis is one of the oldest healing techniques, and was used by the Ancient Egyptians thousands of years ago. It has been endorsed by the BMA (British Medical Association) since 1955 as part of medical education, and is used for a wide range of psychological and medical issues, including stress, anxiety, phobias and habit disorders. It is especially useful for IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

Our minds work on 2 levels, the conscious and the unconscious. We think, make decisions and act with our conscious mind. Our unconscious mind is responsible for our habitual thoughts, feelings and behaviours, for our memory and the functioning of our body. In the relaxed state of hypnosis we can communicate directly with the unconscious. This is why it is so quick and easy to change the habits of a lifetime using hypnosis.

Hypnosis is natural; we all move in and out of a hypnosis-like state several times a day without recognising it as such. Some examples: deeply absorbed in reading a book or watching TV; driving a well-known route; the drowsy relaxation when we're going to sleep or waking up. During such familiar activities our conscious mind can drift off into daydream mode while our subconscious mind directs our body's activities. This is perfectly normal and safe, and if something happens which needs our attention, our conscious mind instantly takes over.

Hypnosis is safe. You are aware and in control, and can talk as necessary. You cannot be made to do something against your will. Hypnosis in fact amplifies your own willpower and determination. Hypnosis is not sleep but it is a state of deep relaxation, which most people find very pleasant. It is also very easy to learn self-hypnosis, so that you can enjoy the benefits whenever you choose. Hypnotherapy is the process of using hypnosis to enable you to make positive changes in your life.
